What is a DUNS Number and why is it needed for business verification?

A D-U-N-S® Number is a unique 9-digit identifier for a business, assigned by Dun & Bradstreet (D&B).
It is used worldwide for:

  • verifying the legal existence of a company;
  • business credibility checks;
  • identifying organizations in international databases;
  • working with services like Apple Developer, Google Ads, Amazon, and US government entities.

Platforms such as Google and Apple require it to confirm that your company is real and officially registered.

How to get a DUNS Number

1. Check if you already have one

Many companies already exist in the D&B database.
You can look it up on your local D&B website.

2. If you don’t — submit an application

For Ukraine, the relevant page is:

Usually required:

  1. Company name
  2. Company registration number (EDRPOU)
  3. Legal address
  4. Contact person information
  5. Incorporation documents (sometimes)

3. Processing time

  • standard: 5–30 days;
  • fast-track service available (paid).

4. After receiving

You get a 9-digit DUNS number which you can use for verification in Google, Apple, Meta, Amazon, etc.
