What is a Lifecycle of Domain Name?

Every domain name goes through a series of stages from the moment of registration to its final deletion. Understanding these stages helps you avoid losing your domain by renewing it on time.

🔄 Main Stages of a Domain Lifecycle:

  1. Available
The domain is unregistered and can be purchased.

  2. Registered / Active
The domain is currently owned and functional, usually for one year or more.

  3. Expired
The registration term has ended. The website and email may stop working, but renewal is still possible.

  4. Grace Period
A short time frame (0–30 days) when the domain can be renewed at the regular price.

  5. Redemption Period
If the domain wasn’t renewed during the grace period, it enters a 30-day redemption period where renewal is possible but expensive.

  6. Pending Delete
Final stage before deletion. No actions can be taken. Lasts 5–7 days.

  7. Available Again
The domain is released and becomes available for new registration.

🗂️ Domain Zone Variations:

  • .UA / .COM.UA / .ORG.UA – Standard lifecycle with grace and redemption periods, managed by Hostmaster.ua.

  • .EU – Typically includes only a short grace period, no redemption.

  • Generic TLDs (.COM, .NET, .ORG) – Full standard lifecycle as described above.

💡 Tips:

  • Enable auto-renewal in your domain panel.
  • Monitor your email notifications — reminders are typically sent 30 days before expiration.
  • For important domains, consider registering for multiple years in advance.
