What to do after buying a domain and hosting

Congratulations! Once you have ordered a domain and hosting from RX-NAME, an important stage of preparing to launch your website begins. This step-by-step guide will help new clients navigate the first steps after successfully ordering services.

Step 1. Checking the domain-to-hosting connection

The first and most important step after purchase is to make sure that your domain name is properly linked to your hosting. Pay attention to where the domain management takes place:

  • If you ordered hosting: the domain management panel is automatically transferred directly to the hosting control panel (Plesk), where you can manage files, databases, and email settings.
  • Otherwise (if hosting was not ordered together with the domain): domain management remains by default in your personal account under the «DNS Manager» section in your domain order management menu.
  • Check the connection correctness in the control panel that corresponds to your order type.

Step 2. Waiting for global DNS record propagation

After the domain has been linked or its DNS records changed, the site needs time to activate across the global Internet:

  • Global DNS propagation usually takes from a few hours up to 24–48 hours (depending on your provider and the global DNS network).
  • Why might the site not open? During this transition period, your browser or ISP may still store (cache) old domain information. Because of this, the site may temporarily be unavailable or display a DNS error (for example, ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED). This is a temporary phenomenon that will resolve automatically after propagation is complete.

Step 3. Choosing a domain usage strategy

Once DNS records update and your domain loads successfully, it’s time to decide on the further usage of your domain name. Classic web hosting and CMS WordPress is only one of the possible ways to develop your project.

Depending on your goals, you can choose one of the following paths:

  • Creating a website on WordPress (most popular option): suitable for blogs, corporate websites, and online stores. You can read the installation guide here: Instructions for installing WordPress on RX-NAME hosting.
  • Using other CMS or custom code: you can install any other content management system (OpenCart, Joomla, Laravel, etc.) or upload your own HTML/CSS/JS files via FTP or the Plesk panel.
  • Connecting to a website builder or third-party services: if you plan to create a site using a website builder (Shopify, Wix, Tilda, etc.) or connect the domain to services like Notion/GitHub Pages, simply configure the appropriate DNS records (A-record or CNAME).
  • Setting up redirection (Redirect): the domain can be used to forward visitors to your social media pages, marketplaces, or another primary website.
  • Using the domain exclusively for corporate email: you can set up professional mailboxes (e.g., info@yourdomain.com), even while the website itself is still under developm
