Specifics of .DE Domain Registration and Configuration
About .DE Domain Zone
The .DE ccTLD has stricter technical requirements than most other domains. Proper DNS configuration is mandatory before the domain can be registered.
1. Registration Requirements
• Registrant details
- Any individual or company from any country can register a .DE domain.
- All Whois data must be accurate; DENIC may request verification.
• DNS must be ready before registration
If the nameservers fail DENIC’s compliance test, the domain will not be registered.
2. DENIC DNS Requirements
DNS servers undergo an automatic technical check.
Key requirements:
- At least two independent authoritative nameservers.
- Servers must provide authoritative responses.
- A correct SOA record must be present.
- NS records in the zone must match the registrar’s NS.
- Nameservers must respond over UDP 53 and TCP 53.
- Response time must be within acceptable limits.
3. Important Notes
- No Grace Period for deletion — removal is immediate.
- AuthInfo code is generated directly by DENIC.
- Transfers require a valid AuthInfo code.
- If DNS is misconfigured, the domain may enter TRANSIT status.
